Solicitors’ Representatives x2

As the Solicitors’ Representative, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed carrying out my role. The work, however, is undeniably intensive, involving strong presentational and communicational abilities as well as administrative skills, and requires a great deal of initiative.

My main responsibilities have been to promote careers awareness in the Faculty by working with the University staff, the Careers Service, post-graduate qualification providers, and law firms.

The work-load encompasses everything from making the initial contact with guests and upholding a positive relationship with them throughout the year to organise and lead a wide range of events, to a whole host of administration tasks such as ensuring that relevant Union documentation is submitted, that parking spaces for guests have been secured, and that the catering and equipment for events has been arranged in advance.

The hard work I’ve carried out in 2015-16 has really paid off, however; this year we’ve arranged events with nine times as many law firms as the Law Society managed last year! This has been the result of team work with other committee members and other societies, as much as tenacity and diligence.
