Welcoming our Honorary Chairperson 2024/25

Tana Adkin KC, Honorary Chairperson

Leicester University Law Society is thrilled to announce the appointment of Tana Adkin KC as Honorary Chairperson for the 2024/2025 academic year.

As per tradition, LULS selects an Honorary Chairperson to serve as a figurehead for our society, and this year, we are proud to welcome Tana.

Tana Adkin KC, a highly respected Leicester alumni, is deeply admired by our committee, who felt she was the ideal choice for this position. Her distinguished career, including her roles as Vice Chair and Chair of the Criminal Bar Association and her appointment to King's Counsel in 2017, serves as an inspiration to the next generation of legal professionals at our university. Her recent shortlisting for Silk of the Year in the Legal 500 Bar Awards further exemplifies her exceptional contributions to the legal field, making her a truly outstanding role model for our members.

We are honored that Tana has graciously accepted the role of Honorary Chairperson, and we look forward to working with her over the coming year.

Her Chairperson’s Address will take place on Thursday, 17th October, and attendance is compulsory for all Law Society members.

A Message from Tana Adkin KC:

“I consider it a privilege to be appointed this year as Honorary Chair of the Leicester University Law Society.  I hope to emulate the high-achieving former Honorary Chairs who have made significant contributions to the Law and to the University.

I was fortunate to have attended the University of Leicester before going on to study Law and ultimately joining the ranks at the Criminal Bar. Criminal barristers remain the fearless and faithful guardians of the Common Law and defenders of the rights of all citizens.  It is a profession of which I am very proud.  I was also privileged to lead the profession as Chair of the Criminal Bar Association last year.

As Chair, I look forward to meeting and sharing a common interest in the law with students at the University and will endeavor to support the Society in furthering education and training to equip the future guardians and defenders of the future.”

A Few Words from Our President, Ella Bailey:

“We are delighted to welcome Tana Akin KC to the position of LULS Honorary Chairperson for the upcoming academic year.

She is an exemplary figure in her field and is described in the current Legal 500 rankings (2024) as “simply exceptional”.

Listening to her Legal 500 podcast, where she discusses the current affairs within the criminal justice system in England and Wales and further the problems it faces post covid, was clear evidence of her excellence and made her somebody that I hold in high regard.

Tana’s journey from Leicester to her position as Deputy Head of Chambers at 15 NBS Chambers is truly inspiring and admirable. I am confident that her address will showcase her dedication to the legal profession whilst motivating students to pursue their career aspirations.”

We are excited to embark on this journey with Tana Adkin and look forward to a memorable and impactful year as Honorary Chairperson for Leicester University Law Society.
