Commercial Awareness Programme

The Leicester University Law Society’s Commercial Awareness Programme (LULS CAP) is a year-long educational programme that aims to provide students with the necessary tools to improve their commercial awareness- an essential trait for any modern profession.

Participants will also receive formal certification on programme completion.

We recruit students from both Law and non-law degree backgrounds from all year groups.

What does the programme involve?

LULS CAP will consist of lectures on business topics and commercially-related debates, discussions and case study exercises. Each session will be interactive, engaging and informative.

By the end of the programme, all participants will be well-versed in key commercial concepts, ranging from macroeconomic topics, including interest rates and inflation, to microeconomic matters such as equity and debt financing.

Furthermore, when seeking career opportunities in this space, you must demonstrate that you are excited about business affairs and the prospect of guiding clients in complex commercial environments. Accordingly, LULS CAP aims to ensure that students cultivate a genuine interest in the business world.

LULS CAP can also be used to complete the Leicester Award, which encourages students to challenge themselves and try new things. The Award will be indicated on students’ transcripts and reflects the transferable skills they acquired during university.

Commercial acumen is a desirable trait, often even essential, for many employers. Polishing your business savviness will therefore help you become more of an attractive candidate.

Our programme will help you equip you with the practical knowledge to impress future employers. You will become familiar with the various risks and opportunities facing a given business and be able to apply your newfound knowledge to aid clients in protecting their business interests.

Accordingly, our programme will be valuable to all those seeking to bolster their career prospects and improve their understanding of the business world.

Meet our Commercial Awareness Programme Director 2024

As the Commercial Awareness Programme (CAP) Director for the 2024/2025 academic year, my primary goal is to enhance students' understanding of complex commercial concepts while making the programme more engaging and interactive. I want to create an environment where both law and non-law students can build confidence in their business acumen through dynamic workshops, newsletters, and real-world case studies. My vision is to further integrate practical insights into the programme, enabling participants to not only understand macroeconomic and microeconomic topics but also develop the ability to apply these principles to real business challenges. Ultimately, I aim to ensure that every participant leaves CAP with a genuine interest in the business world and the skills to impress future employers in any commercial environment. - Rupesh Gora
